Josie Montoya of Bayfield holds onto her dog, Rona, and watches her car get towed after they were involved in head-on crash with an SUV shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of U.S Highway 160 and Colorado Highway 172 (Elmore’s Corner). Montoya said she was eastbound on Highway 160 and the driver of the westbound SUV made a left turn in front of her onto Highway 172. The driver of the SUV was taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center with unknown injuries. Traffic lanes were blocked for about an hour. Montoya said she was glad she was wearing her seatbelt, and that Rona went into the dash on impact and the airbag inflated, knocking the dog back.
