Thank you, Briggen Wrinkle, for your well-reasoned article about what we think we know about nonprofits (Herald, May 1). Having spent much of the past 40 years creating, leading, supporting and evaluating nonprofits in our area, I could not agree more with your assessment of how misinformed community perceptions can undermine support for these vital organizations.
We seem to want it both ways – full government support for issues we deem important, and nonprofits to step up wherever government falls short. Doesn’t that leave an awful lot of yawning gaps to fill?
We are fortunate to have just about any nonprofit available in our small town to tackle anyone’s pet cause, including pets. Please volunteer and give generously to our hardworking La Plata County nonprofits.
