Now we watch as Donald Trump ignores Gov. Jared Polis’ quid pro quo commutation of Tina Peters’ prison sentence. Give a bully what he wants, and he never gives you anything – he just demands more. Contrary to Polis’ assertion that Peters would express regret over her proven illegal actions, as soon as she got out she began doing the opposite, reciting the Trump Big Lie about the 2020 election, claiming to be a political prisoner and projecting her attempts to cheat onto Democrats. Of course she can say anything she wants – it is still a free country for some – but she is not free from the social consequences of her lying and betrayal.
It stands out that she and so many other Republicans feel they can ignore their oath of office and do whatever Trump wants, betraying their oath, the Constitution and our laws. True honor is keeping to one’s oath even when others pressure you to do otherwise.
For shame, Polis, for disrespecting all those who honor their oaths and serve in elections with integrity. Everything Polis says about releasing Peters reads like weak public relations. Polis, was it worth it, this betrayal?
