The Demons dropped below .500 in Southwestern League play with a 62-46 loss Friday at Grand Junction after the Tigers outscored them 27-12 in the second quarter.

“They just pulled away,” DHS head coach Nancy Smith said.

Emily McCue led DHS (3-8, 1-2 SWL) with 10 points, while Augusta Brockus scored seven and Emily Fogel and Jessica Sigillito each had six.

The Demons gave up a height advantage to Grand Junction, (13-1, 2-1 SWL) but outrebounded the Tigers 35-34.

They also only gave the ball away one more time than their opponent, which has plagued them this season.

“It’s frustrating to lose, period, but they improved several things we did poorly in the last game,” Smith said.

DHS has lost two consecutive league games after opening its schedule with a win over Grand Junction Central last weekend at home. The Demons will play noon Saturday at Montrose.
