Casias was a mother, grandmother, friend and community health advocate, demonstrated by years of service working with Ignacio teens and youths.
She worked for Southern Ute Health Services and served on the board of directors for My Sisters Keeper, an organization supporting Native American women experiencing domestic violence and sexual assault. She was also the co-founder of See It. Stop It., a violence prevention campaign for parents and teens.
