A female elk gallops through a field near the Animas River with her still-spotted calf Friday afternoon. Baby deer and elk will be appearing in the area, and officials with Colorado Parks and Wildlife suggest if you see a young one that appears to be abandoned, leave it alone, because the mother is likely to be close by.
