Pine River Cemetery staff will clean up the area starting April 4. ALL flowers and decorations will be picked up and disposed of. If you have any items you would like to keep, please pick them up before then. We respectfully ask that new flowers and decorations not be placed on grave locations until after the clean-up as well. Thank you for your assistance in keeping our cemetery clean and beautiful.

Mercy Regional Medical Center invites the public to attend “Healthy Eating on a Budget,” a free community presentation hosted by Mercy Nutrition Therapy and the Garden Project of Southwest Colorado. The presentation will be at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 6 at the Durango Public Library. Mercy registered dietitians Marge Morris and Marissa Kleinsmith will discuss top nutrition tips to achieve wellness, and how to plan and prepare affordable, nutritious, and delicious meals. Sandhya Tillotson, executive director of The Garden Project, will introduce ways to incorporate locally sourced foods into your diet. Healthy hors d’oeuvres will be served.

Some tickets are still available for the Bayfield Lions Foundation prime rib dinner fundraiser on April 9 at the Lions Hall. Tickets are $25 and are available at the Pine River Times or by calling 884-2054 or 259-1595. Along with dinner, beer, and wine, the event includes silent and live auctions. Auction items donations also are welcome.

Proceeds are used for maintenance and improvements on the Lions Hall.

Heart Safe LaPlata, a local non-profit organization, will teach an adult CPR/AED class from 6 to 10 p.m. on Thursday, April 7. There also will be a CPR Pro class from 6 to 10 p.m. on Thursday, April 14. Both classes will be held at Durango Fire & Rescue Station 1 at 142 Sheppard Drive in Durango. Tickets are now available for the La Plata-Archuleta Cattlemen’s annual banquet. It will be held on April 23 at the Sky Ute Event Center in Ignacio. La Plata County Commissioner Julie Westerndorff will hold office hours from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday, April 7, at the Pine River Public Library. Anyone wishing to discuss county issues is welcome to stop by.

Pine River Library will continue its Mesa de Charla community potluck and discussion series on Wednesday, April 6, with a celebration of the planet hosted by the La Plata Family Centers Coalition. Activities will be from 6 to 8 p.m. and will include a film showing, community discussion, and potluck, as well as a craft for kids. All ages are welcome. Bring your favorite dish to share and join the party!
