On April 22, Ignacio School District’s Relay for Life Team will be hosting their annual family dance. Everyone is invited to come dance with D.J. Oscar Cosio from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Ignacio Elementary Cafetorium. There will be a bake sale, and participants can design a luminaria for loved ones who have battled cancer. The luminarias will be displayed at the Relay for Life event at on June 27. Door prizes include some “one-of-a-kind” Bobcat collectibles. Hospice of Mercy is offering a two-day volunteer training course for individuals interested in becoming a hospice volunteer. The comprehensive course will take place Friday, April 29, and Saturday, April 30, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Florida Mesa Presbyterian Church, 1024 County Road 230. Hospice of Mercy, founded on a spirit of caring and volunteerism, has been providing compassionate care in the community for over 30 years.

Dancing Spirit Community Arts Center in Ignacio is seeking artist supporters for a fundraiser auction to be held in June. Artists are invited to create and submit work on the theme, “Opening the Doors to the Arts.” It can be a literal door that is embellished, an arbor, a 3-D piece, whatever. They will be displayed for bids at local businesses and an online auction website. Artists will receive 30 percent of the winning bid prices.

Works will need to be dropped off the first week of June at Dancing Spirit in the ELHI Community Center (old elementary school) in downtown Ignacio. The auction will end on June 25 at Dancing Spirit’s “Day on the Grass” concert with Lipbone Redding. For more information, call 769-1364.

The monthly Pine River Shares community potluck will be Saturday, April 23, at the old gym on South Street in Bayfield. Volunteers are invited to help set up starting at 4 p.m., and to help with cleanup later. Serving starts at 5 p.m. All are welcome. The Durango Home & Ranch Show will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 23 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the la Plata County Fairgrounds. Admission is $5 and children 12 and under can attend for free. More than 130 exhibitors will attend, ranging from interiors to plumbing to mortage lenders and builders. The Tiffany Arboles Rosa Allison Organization will host a Mexican dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 1, at at the TARA building in Arboles. Proceeds will be used for the organziation’s operating expenses. A taco bar and enchiladas are $14 for adults and $8 for children in advance, or $16 and $9 at the door. Bayfield Early Education Programs is hosting Summer Camps for children ages three to eight. There will be two sessions: the first beginning June 6 and running through June 30. The second camp session will begin on July 11 and end on Aug. 4. Each session will be four days a week, Monday through Thursday beginning at 8 a.m. and ending at 5 p.m. The cost is $35 per day. amps include lots of outdoor time, crafts, field trips and other fun activities which will be led by the BEEP staff. Times and days are flexible to accommodate bible schools, swimming lessons and vacations.
