Are you looking for a place to meet up with other local crafters for socializing and working on projects? The Los Pinos Alliance Fiber and Craft Guild has started meeting the second Saturday of each month at the Pine River Library from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The next meeting is tomorrow. Whether you are a knitter, fiber artist, beader, paper crafter, or jewelry maker, this is a time for crafters of all kinds to come together.

Durango Dharma Center Leader Katherine Barr will present a five-week Beginning Meditation class on successive Thursdays, beginning June 16 through July 14, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Classes will be held in the Dharma Center at 1800 East Third Avenue, Suite 109, across from St. Columba Catholic Church and School and next to the Durango Public Library.

All are welcome, from beginners to experienced practitioners interested in a refresher course. To register or obtain further information, visit durangodharmacenter.org. For questions, contact Mary O’Donnell, [email protected] or 903-5009.

The new Ute dictionary will be discussed at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 16 at the Ignacio Community Library.

The publication of the revised and expanded Ute Dictionary marks the completion of a revision of the three Ute language books: the Ute Reference Grammar (2011; originally 1980), the Ute Texts (2013; originally 1985) and now the Dictionary (2016; originally 1979).

A coherent description of a language requires, minimally, a dictionary, a grammar book and a text collection. But a dictionary is not just a long list of words and their meanings. To be usable, the new Ute dictionary includes several introductory chapters that link the words to the Ute sound system and alphabet (chapter 1), the grammar of word-usage (chapter 2), the derivation of new words from existing ones (chapter 3), and a detailed guidance to the structure and use of the dictionary (chapter 4). Tom Givon and Pearl Casias will be at the library for a discussion of the New Ute Dictionary.

The tagline for this year’s Summer Reading Program is “Exercise Your Mind: READ.” So the Pine River Library is taking that theme to the next level by offering a series of fitness related classes for adults throughout the summer. The first of these classes will be a free yoga class from 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 16.

This class is open to all experience levels and will be taught be local yoga teacher Colleen Theobald. This is a great opportunity to try yoga out for the first time and see if it is a good fit for you!

For more information on yoga and the Summer Reading program, contact the library at 884-2222, ext. 510.

Protecting computers and other digital devices from viruses and hacking is an ongoing probleM. Learn the best practices for safeguarding your computer and personal information from John Leinberger from Office Depot. He will teach a “Computer Security Basics” at Pine River Library from 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14. There have been reports from residents in Bayfield of someone calling and telling people their computers are infected, then offering steps over the phone to remove the virus. These calls are a scam.

Leinberger will discuss the steps computer users can take to prevent these threats, as well as what to do if a computer has been hacked.

For more information contact the library at 884-2222, ext. 510.
