NerdWallet spokeswoman Laura Zulliger said in an email that five factors were considered in compiling the Top 10 list of “Best Towns in Colorado for Young Families”: public school rating, average home value, ongoing cost of homeownership, average income and economic growth.

The No. 1 city was Superior. Highlands Ranch, Louisville, Erie and Castle Rock rounded out the Top 5. Six through 10 were Parker, Broomfield, Windsor, Durango and Littleton.

Among the 10 cities, Durango is the only one not on the Front Range. Also, Durango has the lowest median household income ($53,674) and the second-highest median home value ($367,700) among the 10. Interestingly, the highest median home value was Superior at $395,000.
