Alijah Konikowski “really came to life at the Delta Tournament” on Sept. 12-13, Durango High School head coach Dave Weisfeldt said of his No. 3 singles player and the Demons’ lone representative at this year’s CHSAA Class 4A Boys Tennis State Championships. The Delta Invitational “built up his confidence.” Konikowski led the Demons with a runner-up finish at regionals and led the team to a third-place result. Konikowski and Weisfeldt will drive to Pueblo on Thursday for the state tournament Thursday through Saturday at Pueblo City Park, which prompted Weisfeldt to joke the coach and the player need “a motorcycle and a sidecar” for their journey. Konikowski, a sophomore, will play Noah Forman Jr. of Colorado Academy in the first round.
