For this project, I chose to study the regulation of marijuana, seeing as the sale of it is banned in Bayfield city limits. How exactly does the town have the power to override the state law? This question was the basis of research.
Although there is not one clear answer to this, it is still peculiar that states, towns and counties have the abilities to make their own laws that override higher government authorities. Why can the state legalize marijuana when the federal law still makes it illegal? Why can towns make their own laws regardless of state law?
Colorado creates its own borders between towns. As I continue to study this, I cannot help but wonder what level should marijuana be legalized at? An overall law should be followed to stop creating invisible drug borders throughout the state.
