The current scam involves a caller who orders that businesses wire money from City Market to another account. Calls will show an 800 callback number not affiliated with LPEA.
When in doubt, businesses and residential customers should politely end the conversation and call LPEA customer service at 247-5786 during regular business hours to clarify billing details. If the call is obviously fraudulent, call local law enforcement.
LPEA customers with accounts that are past due receive a series of notices and are given adequate time to settle outstanding balances before any disconnection occurs. Also, disconnections are never made after hours, during weekends or on holidays.
