I am certainly pleased that LPEA is no longer a member of Tri-State. This was something I worked on when I was on the LPEA board between 2017 and 2020. It took a long time, but it will be well worth it.

Going forward, there are going to be crucial decisions to be made about how to keep power costs low and reliability high. It is important that each LPEA member learn about the candidates who are running to serve on the LPEA board of directors, since they will be making the ultimate decisions.

In District 4, which is roughly east of U.S. Highway 550 and north of U.S. Highway 160, the two candidates are very different. David Luschen has served on the board for the last three years, and he makes careful and educated decisions about the issues facing LPEA.

His opponent, John Purser, on the other hand, created a candidate statement (which you can view on the LPEA website at lpea.coop/elections) that is full of incorrect information. This includes major errors on the amount of the buyout fee, claims of abandoned equity that are false, errors in the amount of LPEA debt, and the amount of interest LPEA is paying. All the correct information is readily available, but Mr. Luschen’s opponent apparently chose to ignore it.

If you are in District 4, I strongly encourage you to vote – and to vote for David Luschen.
