This was my first year as the co-organizer of a new event. Now I understand the amount of time, effort and coordination it takes. The Zumba booty-shaking contest on Jan. 31 was eye-popping, jaw-dropping entertainment for both contestants and onlookers. I’m grateful to Snowdown event co-coordinator Marlene Gebhardt for her guidance, Durango Dance owner Kristen Brewer-Sitter for the space, the group of volunteers who managed the considerable crowd and the 50 contestants who performed – including the winners, Mikayla Hassinger and Henry Stoy, an older gentleman who paraded around with The Golden Thong award over his pants to thundering applause. Praise should go to all the sponsors who donated prizes for Snowdown events. For my contest, I am thankful to the generous folks at the Strater Hotel and Mahogany Grille for their contributions.
