Hanson Honda will hold its annual “Fill the Ridgeline for the Echo Food Bank” food drive from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.
People should bring non-perishable food items to Hanson Honda, 5301 E. Main in Farmington. All proceeds will benefit the Echo Food Bank, which serves the underprivileged throughout San Juan County.

Mountain Studies Institute to host party
Staff of Mountain Studies Institute will host a Thanksgiving Party from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at 970 East Fourth Ave.
The party will feature light appetizers, libations and live music by Robby Overfield. Participants will learn about the institute’s accomplishments for the year, and celebrate research and education in the San Juan Mountains. Door prizes have been donated by Silverton Mountain and Second Avenue Sports.
Rotary Club of Durango to meet Tuesday
The Rotary Club of Durango announces a change in speakers for its meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Strater Hotel, 699 Main Ave.
Eddie Cheung, Laura Schweizer and Roger Ptolemy will discuss their recent trip to Tibet. Part of a group of five Durango residents, they stayed several nights in the homes of native Tibetans and helped install a 1.2 mile water line to service part of a small village about 13,000 feet in elevation. Later, the group flew to the city of Lhasa, capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region, where they visited a number of interesting and memorable sites, including the Potala Palace, which is the historic home of the Dalai Lamas. The originally scheduled speaker, Terry Hutchison of YESS The Book Hutch, will present at a future date. Visitors are welcome.

Opera to be discussed Monday
“Opera 101 Take No. 2” by Judith Reynolds will take place at 7 p.m. Monday in the Lyceum of the Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College.
This will be a 50-minute presentation on the history, humor and folly of opera. This will be a repeat of the Oct. 3 Life Long Learning presentation.
Homewood Suites to host blood drives
Homewood Suites by Hilton in Durango, 15 Girard St., and United Blood Services announce a partnership that will allow blood donors in the Durango area a new and comfortable place to donate blood.
Blood drives will be held in the hotel’s Carbon Junction meeting space on a regular basis twice a month with the first blood drive scheduled from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday. Future blood drives will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Although appointments are encouraged, donors also may stop in. Donors must be 18 years old, have photo ID and be feeling healthy. Donors can earn Hero Rewards Points to redeem for gifts from the United Blood Services Hero Rewards store.

Water conservation to be discussed Tuesday
“Water conservation” will be the topic the La Plata Archuleta Water District will address for its domestic water supply system from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at its office, 255 Ute St. in Ignacio.
Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper asked the Colorado Water Conservation Board for a water plan that will support agriculture and align state policy with citizens’ water values. The Colorado Water Plan will address the gap between water supply and demand, drought, water quality and quantity, and interstate water agreements.
Suggestions and ideas from taxpayers and potential customers of the district will be part of a plan to use its water wisely. Discussion is meant to allow future customers to provide opinions and information about actions they might find beneficial. Participants are asked to bring suggestions.
Divorce, custody to be discussed Tuesday
“Doing your own divorce and/or custody in Colorado” will be the topic of a free seminar at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.
The seminar will be presented by a volunteer attorney from Southwest Bar Volunteer Legal Aid.

Watercolor workshop to take place in Ignacio
A “Watercolor Workshop” with Denny Rose will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Ignacio Community Library, 470 Goddard Ave. in Ignacio.
