A Christmas Bazaar will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Ninth Street and East Third Avenue.

The bazaar will feature shopping, cinnamon rolls, breakfast quiche, lunch and organic, free trade Guatemalan coffee by the cup or bag. Handcrafted items range from quilts and soaps to jewelry. There will also be face painting for the children.

Montessori school to host holiday bazaar

Durango Montessori Elementary School will hold a holiday bazaar from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday on the first floor of the Smiley Building, 1309 East Third Ave.

The bazaar will include arts, crafts, food, entertainment, a silent auction and more. The event is a fundraiser for the school’s financial-aid program. Durango Montessori, in the Smiley Building, was established in 2005 to provide elementary education based in the Montessori philosophy to students ages 6-11.

Kiwanis Club to meet Thursday

The Kiwanis Club of Durango will meet at noon Thursday at Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.

Gwen Lachelt, county commissioner, will be the guest. She will speak about community issues. Visitors are welcome.

Volunteers sought for Thanksgiving dinner

The 27th annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner will take place Nov. 28 at La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave.

The tables will be decorated, the band will play, and turkey with all the trimmings will be served by volunteers from noon to 2 p.m. Help is needed cooking, serving, decorating, delivering meals, baking pies and cleaning up. To volunteer or request a meal be delivered, call Gordon at 259-4061. There is no charge for this dinner, but monetary donations are appreciated.

Free class available for new dog owners

A free class to help new dog owners develop a plan to set them up for success will take place at 5 p.m. Sunday at Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.

Donations will be accepted for La Plata County Humane Society. This class is for humans only, and will be hosted by Certified Professional Dog Trainer Juliet Whitfield.
