The 1000 block of Main Avenue will close to through-traffic from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. today to allow for utility construction crossing at 10th Street.
Traffic on Main Avenue will detour to East Second Avenue, at 10th and 11th streets. Local traffic will be permitted into the 1000 block of Main Avenue from the north and be allowed to make a U-turn to leave at 11th Street. Sidewalk and pedestrian traffic will not be affected during the closure.

City parking lot closures announced
The city of Durango has contracted for sealcoating of three city parking lots starting today.
The three city parking lots, on East Second Avenue, will alternate closures from today through Tuesday. East Lot 2, at the 600 block of East Second Avenue, will be closed for parking from today through Saturday. East Lot 3, at the 700 block of East Second Avenue, will be closed for parking from Friday through Saturday. East Lot 4, at the 800 block of East Second Avenue, will be closed for parking from Monday through Tuesday. Vehicles with valid parking permits for the listed lots are invited to park at metered street parking free of charge during the closure.

Old Fort Farm stand to be opened at FLC
The Old Fort Farm Stand will be on campus from 1 to 4 p.m. today in the Student Union building at Fort Lewis College.
If the weather is nice, the stand will be near the west side entrance. The stand will have potatoes, onions, beets, carrots, butternut, acorn squash, beef and pork products, pestos, relish, pepper rings, roasted poblanos, roasted anaheims, dried chilis, mini zucchini bread loaves and carrot cakes.
Craft fair to take place Saturday in Arboles
TARA (Tiffany, Allison, Rosa and Arboles) Community Center will host a a holiday craft fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at 333 Milton Lane in Arboles.

Sports Foundation to host celebration
Durango Winter Sport Foundation will host the 2013 Hall of Fame Celebration on Saturday at the Fort Lewis College Ball Room.
The foundation will honor local Olympic athletes Linda Meyers Tikalsky and Ronny Yeager. The annual Winter Gala and Hall of Fame is a fundraising event to support the Durango Nordic Ski Club and the Purgatory Ski and Snowboard Teams. Money raised will be used to maintain quality winter athletic programs for the youth of Southwest Colorado and provide financial assistance to kids ages 8-18 who otherwise would not be able to participate in winter sports. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and dress is formal. The event will include live music by Jeff Solon, cocktails and hors d’oeurves. Tickets are $75 each.

Local shelter program seeks volunteers
The Durango Emergency Shelter Program seeks volunteers to help with a new inclement weather shelter designed to keep homeless families off the streets on the coldest nights this winter season.
This volunteer group is led by members of the United Methodist Church, community case managers, social workers, volunteers and housing providers, and augments existing shelter programs in Durango. The shelter will be housed at community churches and will be open from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly beginning in January. Volunteers are needed in a variety of capacities. Donations of meals, transportation, personal hygiene packets, and snacks also are needed.

Life-Long lecture series continues today
The Life-Long Learning Lecture Series at Fort Lewis College will present “Travelling through Central European Countries” by Frank Fristensky at 7 p.m. today in Noble Hall, Room 130 at Fort Lewis College.
Fristensky, originally from the Czech Republic and a frequent central European traveler, will host this visual exploration of this part of the world.
