A bird walk will be hosted by the Durango Bird Club at 9 a.m. Wednesday at For the Birds, 1560 East Second Ave.
The walks last about one hour and 15 minutes. Bring binoculars. The walks are free, but donations to the hosting group are welcome.

Candy-making class available in Bayfield
Wendy Rice, from the Colorado State University extension office, will teach basic candy-making with simple recipes and safe food preparation techniques in “Candy-Making 101” from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday in the community room at the Pine River Library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive.
This hands-on class is free of charge, with all supplies provided by the library. Participants will need to register in order to allow the library to plan for supplies.

Community clinic to offer open house
“Coffee at the Clinic” will take place from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Wednesday at the La Plata Community Clinic, 1800 East Third Ave., Suite 103.
Participants will meet the new clinic manager, Ginny Newman, PA. The clinic is southwest of Durango Public Library. Coffee, tea, homemade biscotti and healthful breakfast items will be available.

Calm parenting workshop to be offered
Calm Parenting, a free workshop for parents of teens about building communication, cooperation and connection, will take place from 5:45 to 7:15 p.m. Wednesday at the La Plata Youth Services, 2301 Main Ave.
Liza Tregillus will led the workshop, She has more than 30 years experience with families, including youth with brain-based differences such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, autism spectrum disorder or emotional issues. She also is a parent.

Firewood available free to Durango residents
City of Durango Parks and Recreation will offer firewood from the Dalla Mountain Park fuels-reduction program from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday.
The entrance gate to Dalla Mountain Park is at 3234 Junction St. The Durango Parks and Recreation Department is making this firewood available at no cost to city residents for collection and personal use. A parks and recreation employee will be present at all times when the park gate is open to provide additional information and assistance with locating the several piles of dry timber firewood. All vehicles entering the park must remain on the established road. It may be necessary to cut the longer sections of firewood for ease of hauling to the vehicle for transportation off site.
