A free community breakfast will take place from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Marvel Grange Hall, 217 County Road 133A.

The menu will include pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, juice and coffee.

Event to raise money for avalanche center

Pine Needle Mountaineering will host its fifth annual Colorado Avalanche Information Center Benefit from 5 to 10 p.m. Dec. 4 at the Durango Discovery Museum, 1333 Camino del Rio.

The event will raise money and awareness for the center’s avalanche safety and awareness programs.

The nonprofit was created to support the Colorado Avalanche Information Center and the San Juan zone. The center provides avalanche bulletins and promotes awareness, safety and education throughout Colorado.

All proceeds from the silent auction and raffle, as well as food and beverage sales directly support Friends of the Colorado Avalanche Information Center.

The event will include avalanche safety information, gear raffles, silent auction, free swag, live bluegrass music, beer, wine, food and more. Silent auction and raffle will include gear and apparel from Black Diamond, Kuhl, Dynastar, Weston Snowboards, Voile, Silverton Avalanche School, Point6, Freeride Systems, MontBell, Silverton Mountain, Backcountry Access, Osprey, Rab and more.

Santa Claus to arrive at Durango Mall Friday

Santa will visit the Durango Mall, 800 South Camino del Rio, at 10 a.m. Friday.

Santa will ride a Durango Fire and Rescue Authority fire truck to the mall.

Santa will be available at the mall at scheduled hours through Christmas Eve. Santa photos will be provided by Elite Studios
