The Colorado Department of Transportation and the Colorado State Patrol will increase DUI enforcement through Thursday.
The Heat Is On campaign runs throughout the year with 12 specific DUI enforcement periods centered on national holidays and large public events.

Marvel Grange to host New Year’s Eve party
Marvel Grange will host a community New Year’s Eve party at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the grange, 217 County Road 133A in Marvel.
A dinner of meatloaf, mixed vegetables, potatoes, bread and beverages will be provided. Donations are appreciated to cover the cost of the food. Following dinner, there will be table games and door prizes. Door prizes have been provided by Basin CO-OP and Wagner Equipment in Farmington, N.M. People are invited to dress “redneck.”

Recycling center changing its hours
The Durango Recycle Center will change its hours of operation beginning Jan. 6.
The new hours of operation will shift to 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The center continues to serve the community with public drop-off for single stream, cardboard, battery and household electronics recycling.

Bayfield library to host high tea
The Pine River Library will host a high tea for area book clubs and book lovers in general at 4 p.m. Jan. 8 at the library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive.
Two library staffers, originally from England, will assist in recreating the formal high tea traditions. While sampling proper tea, guests are invited to share their suggestions for the 2014 BookMarks book club titles. The BookMarks club meets once a month at the library. The library also offers book club kits for already-established book clubs to use. Currently the library has nearly 20 kits available for checkout.

La Plata County announces closures
La Plata County’s offices will be closed today and Wednesday in observance of the New Year holiday.
Offices will resume regular business hours on Thursday.
