Winter Warrior Snow Shoe race to be held
The Nordic Center at Purgatory will host the Winter Warrior Snow Shoe race at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Competitors can race either a 10K or a 5K snowshoe course. Registration will be at the Nordic Center at 9 a.m. The cost of the race is $15.

Peter Carver birthday celebration to be held
A celebration of Peter Carver’s 25th birthday will take place from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Sunday at Carver Brewing Co., 1022 Main Ave.
The kitchen will close at 7:30 p.m. “Hoppy Birthday Peter,” an English Cream Ale, brewed with guest brewers Colin and Claire Carver, will be tapped. Waiting On Trial will perform live bluegrass. Also, there will be light appetizers and a cash bar. Peter’s Pablo James Carver photography capturing the San Juan Mountains will be displayed and for sale. All proceeds will be donated to the Peter Carver Memorial Forest at Chapman Hill. Peter was killed in an avalanche Feb. 2, 2013, north of Silverton.

Free divorce, custody seminar to be held
A “Doing your own divorce and/or custody in Colorado” seminar will be held at 6 p.m. Monday at Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.
The seminar will be presented by a volunteer attorney from Southwest Bar Volunteer Legal Aid.

Living Wage Coalition to screen film
La Plata County Thrive! Living Wage Coalition will offer a free screening of “Inequality for All” at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Room 130 of Noble Hall at Fort Lewis College.
The documentary was created by former Labor Secretary Robert Reich. It examines the economic gap in the country. The film will be followed by a discussion led by associate professor John Baranski. There also will be information on the local living wage initiative in La Plata County. Free refreshments will be served.

1 mile, 5K runs to benefit local couple
The Running for the O’Neils Community Cares 1 mile and 5K runs will start at 10 and 10:45 a.m. Feb. 15 at Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.
The race will benefit Paul and MaryKay O’Neil. In September 2013, Paul was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Shortly after Paul’s diagnosis, MaryKay was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma that has spread to her lungs, liver and brain. She is receiving treatments at the Cancer Treatment Center of America in Illinois.
For more than 30 years, Paul and MaryKay O’Neil have worked in, and contributed to, the Durango community. Paul worked as a real estate agent for Coldwell Banker, and MaryKay has been the Park Elementary School librarian.
