A bird walk will be hosted by the Durango Bird Club at 9 a.m. Wednesday at For the Birds, 1560 East Second Ave.

The walks last about one hour and 15 minutes. Bring binoculars. The walks are free, but donations to the hosting group are welcome.

Knights of Columbus to host dance Feb. 15

The Knights of Columbus Council No. 1408 will host its annual Sweetheart Dance on Feb. 15 in the St. Columba School gymnasium, 1801 East Third Ave.

An enchilada dinner by Romero’s of Silverton will be served at 6 p.m. There will be dancing with live music by Ralph Dinosaur from 7 to 10 p.m.

A cash bar and silent auction will be featured. Tickets are $15 per person with kids 10 and younger admitted free. Tickets are available from any local Knight of Columbus member or by call 799-6140.

Proceeds will benefit the KC Council No. 1408 charity fund.

Archaeological Society to meet Thursday

The San Juan Basin Archaeological Society will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College.

Linda Wheelbarger will present a program called “Point Pueblo: A Total Chacoan Great House Community.”

Wheelbarger is a professional archaeologist who has worked in the Southwest for 36 years, and currently teaches the field school and other courses at San Juan College.

The public is invited.

Ouray promoting shopping weekend

The Ouray Chamber Resort Association and the city of Ouray are promoting today and Sunday as a “Rocky Road – Shop Ouray Weekend.”

Even with U.S. Highway 550 partially open, Ouray and Silverton are feeling the impact of the road closure.

Businesses in both communities have reported a substantial drop in business since the road was closed in mid-January.

Ouray is still easily accessible from the north, as is Silverton from the south.

U.S. Highway 550 over Red Mountain pass will be open from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. today.

Ignacio library announces programs

Ignacio Community Library, 470 Goddard Ave., will host these programs:

Women’s Movie Night will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday. The feature will be “Becoming Jane.” Snacks will be supplied, and participants are invited to bring a dessert to share.

“iPad Question and Answer” will be held at 1 p.m. Feb. 20. Participants can bring an iPad in or use one of the library’s.
