Mt. Allison Grange will host its annual Chili Cook-off at 5 p.m. Saturday.
All community members are invited to participate. There will be a category for red chile and green chile with prize money for the winners. Dinner is free, although donations will be accepted and used for community-service projects.

Durango City Council, commissioners to meet
The Work Session between the La Plata County Board of County Commissioners and the Durango City Council on Transitional Area Development Standards and the Intergovernmental Agreement, scheduled for Feb. 18, has been rescheduled for 4 p.m. March 3 in the meeting room of the La Plata County Courthouse, 1060 East Second Ave.

Veterans town hall to take place March 3
All area veterans are invited to attend a town hall meeting at 6 p.m. March 3 at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4031, at 1550 Main Ave.
The transition to a new contractor for the Durango VA Contract Community Based Outpatient Clinic will be discussed. The meeting will feature representatives of the New Mexico Veterans Affairs Health Care System. Subject-matter experts will be available one-half hour before the town hall for individual questions and needs at outreach tables.
Archaeology society to meet March 4
The Hisatsinom Chapter of the Colorado Archaeology Society will present Linda Honeycutt at 7 p.m. March 4 at the Methodist Church, 515 Park St., Cortez, to discuss “Seven Basketmaker III Black-on-white Bowl Motifs.”
Each motif is derived from a photographic data base of 1,200 ceramics from approximately 60 Basketmaker III sites in Colorado, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico. Linda Honeycutt, now retired, worked as an archaeologist in the Four Corners for more than 30 years.

DMR to host locals benefit day Sunday
Locals Benefit Day at Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Colorado will take place Sunday.
In order for locals to receive a discount and help support this organization, skiers/snowboarders must use a Locals’ Day coupon. These coupons are available at www.bbig.org or www.skipurg.com/benefitday. With this coupon, adults ski for $40, young adults/seniors for $32, and kids/super seniors for $25.
