Durango Nature Studies will host its spring Volunteer Naturalist Training for its Children Discovering Nature Program from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Eoulus Room of the Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave., and from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Nature Center.
Participants will become qualified volunteer naturalists, ready to lead science-based, hikes for children in kindergarten through sixth grade on topics such as plants, animals, insects and water. Volunteers will receive a manual. Nature walks take place at the Durango Nature Center. No experience is necessary.

Arctic expedition film to be screened
A documentary screening of “Poles Apart” and a discussion with expert skier Anne Dal Vera, a participant on the 1993 American Women’s Antarctic Expedition, will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Room 130 of Noble Hall at Fort Lewis College.
This presentation is part of the San Juan Mountains Association “Gear Up for Wilderness” Lecture Series and is a part of the regional Wilderness 50 programming for spring 2014.
Ignacio library announces programs
Ignacio Community Library, 470 Goddard Ave. in Ignacio, will host these programs:
A fly-tying workshop will take place at 5 p.m. Thursday. The workshop will include a demonstration of some basic flies. Supplies will be provided, but sign-up is required.
An Introduction to Skype will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday. Participants will learn the basics of the communication software. Sign-up is required.
Free legal advice will be available by computer link from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday. By computer, volunteer attorneys will answer questions, help fill out forms, and explain the process and procedure for all areas of civil litigation, including family law, property law, probate law, collections, appeals, landlord-tenant law, small claims and civil-protection orders. Walk-ins are welcome, and people will be helped on a first-come, first-served basis.

Friends of the Bayfield library to meet Thursday
The Friends of the Pine River Library will hold its annual meeting at 10 a.m. Thursday in the meeting room at the Pine River Library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive in Bayfield.
A short business meeting to greet former and new members will include election of new officers followed by a soup luncheon. Membership is $5. Membership includes special library-card privileges.
