The Life-Long Learning Lecture Series at Fort Lewis College presents “The Brain – A User’s Guide to Life-Long Dynamics of Structure and Function” at 7 p.m. today, in Noble Hall, Room 130. The lecture is free and open to everyone.

Dr. Ben Kater, retired professor at the Medical School of the University of Utah and founder of the neuronal growth and development program at Colorado State University, will share information on new experimental methods neuroscientists use to determine how our experiences and environments affect us and how our our brains are altered throughout life.

Divorce/custody seminar scheduled

Doing your own divorce and/or custody in Colorado will be the topic of a free seminar at 5:30 p.m. Monday being presented by a volunteer attorney from Southwest Bar Volunteer Legal Aid. Behavioral Health Court celebrates anniversary

Members of the 6th Judicial District (Archuleta, La Plata and San Juan counties) and its partners in the Behavioral Health Court are celebrating the court’s third anniversary, which has seen eight clients graduate from its intensive monitoring and treatment programs.

The court provides resources, supervision and support in an effort to reduce recidivism, ease financial expenses associated with incarceration and recidivism and reintegrate offenders safely back into the community. The court, which has had 22 participants since its inception, seeks to help resolve underlying mental-health issues leading to criminal conduct by its participants.

Each participant volunteers to enter the program and is screened for eligibility by a team of professionals from Axis Health System, the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office, specialized probation officers, the office of the district attorney, a public defender or private attorney and the district’s problem-solving court coordinator.

Free gardening class offered Saturday

A free gardening class on “Starting Plants From Seed” will be offered at noon Saturday at Native Roots Garden Center, 26266 U.S. Highway 160. Participants will learn trade secrets on vegetable, flower and native plant seed propagation. Call 259-5111 to reserve your seat.

Email class offered April 17 in Mancos

“Computer Basics: Email Basics” will be offered from 1:30 to 3 p.m. April 17 at the Mancos Public Library.

This class is for patrons who do not have an email address or who need to know fundamental email functions. Students will learn how to compose and send emails, how to reply, reply to all, forward and upload and download attachments. Gmail email is the demonstration email for this class. ‘Eggs-travaganza’ event planned at mall

Visit the Easter Bunny from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Durango Mall, 800 S. Camino del Rio. “Eggs-travaganza” is an annual spring event for children that includes “Hunt for the Golden Egg” scavenger hunt. All scavenger hunt participants will receive a treat. The event also includes seeing the Easter Bunny, a coloring contest, cookie tasting by Nestle and chocolate tasting by Animas Chocolate Co.

Forms and crayons will be provided. Prizes will be awarded for winners by age categories. Parents may bring their cameras for photos with the Easter Bunny.
