The 6th Judicial District Judicial Performance Commission requests written comments from the public about judges eligible for retention in this year’s general election.

The judges eligible for retention are: District Court Judge Suzanne F. Carlson and County Court Judge Martha Tinsley Minot. Any person interested in commenting on the performance of the judges may provide a written letter to the commission.

Only comments on Carlson and Minot will be accepted. Written letters may be sent to: R. Nicholas Palmer, Chair – 6th Judicial District Judicial Performance Commission, 2855 Main Ave., Suite B-101, Durango, CO 81301. Letters must include the name and address of the person submitting the comments, and the judge will receive a copy of the letter. All letters must be received by May 15.

Food bank seeks volunteers

The Durango Food Bank is looking for people interested in joining a fundraising campaign and establishing several annual fundraisers with the first year’s proceeds going directly to expansion.

Archaeologist to teach class

Assistant State Archaeologist Kevin Black will teach a class on “Field and Lab Photography” from May 31 to June 1 at the Center of Southwest Studies Lyceum at Fort Lewis College.

The 15-hour course is part of the Program for Avocational Archaeological Certification and is open to the public. No prior classes are required. Equipment and methods of archaeological photography, both in the field and in a controlled lab situation, will be discussed. The class would be valuable for anyone interested in taking part in a field school or volunteering on a dig. Participants are welcome to bring their own cameras to the class. The cost for the class is $12. To reserve a space, make out a check to the Colorado Historical Society and mail it to Florence Mason, 1940 County Road 250, Durango, Co, 81301 before May 20.

Audubon Society to host bird walk

A bird walk will be hosted by the Weminuche Audubon Society at 9 a.m. Wednesday at For the Birds, 1560 East Second Ave.

The walks last about one hour and 15 minutes. Bring binoculars. The walks are free, but donations to the hosting group are welcome.

National Day of Prayer services set in Allison

The Allison Community Presbyterian Church will host a National Day of Prayer service at 7 p.m. May 1 at the church, 2724 County Road 329.

The church is 12 miles east of Ignacio on Colorado Highway 151.

Quilters guild to meet today

The La Plata Quilters Guild will meet at 5:30 p.m. today at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 495 Florida Road.

Virginia Robertson will be this month’s presenter. People who are interested in quilting are invited to visit or become a member.
