The Regional Housing Alliance of La Plata County will offer a free Homebuyer Education Class from May 8 to 10.
The class is an eight-hour program designed to help participants purchase and own a home. Topics will include: buyer readiness, budget/financial management, credit reports and scoring, mortgage lending, working with a Realtor, homeowners insurance, home inspections, the closing process, home maintenance and foreclosure prevention.
The class is facilitated by the alliance with contributions from local professionals such as loan officers, Realtors and insurance agents who teach participants about their specific field of expertise. Registration is required.

Ignacio library to offer classes
Ignacio Public Library, 470 Goddard Ave., will offer these classes:
“Basics of Landscape Design” will take place at 5:30 p.m. May 8. Kevin Robel, a professional landscaper will lead participants through the basics of site analysis, landscaping and plant placement.
A free virtual legal clinic will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. May 9. Free legal advice will be available by computer link to anyone without an attorney.

Trails 2000 to host trail work Wednesday
Trails 2000 will host trail work on Hogsback Mountain Trail from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Trails 2000 will provide the tools, instruction and food and water. No experience is necessary. Participants should meet at the Leyden Street trailhead. Volunteers should wear long pants, long-sleeved shirt, closed-toe shoes, sun hat, sunscreen and bring a water bottle.

The Durango-Four Corners Chapter of Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays will meet at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Durango, 419 San Juan Drive.

Adoption Options will host an Information Session where Leslie Dezendorf will answer questions about adoption at 5:30 p.m. May 7 in Room 3 of Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.
Applications taken for family-violence grants
The Colorado Judicial Branch has opened the application process for fiscal year 2015 grants from the Family Violence Justice Fund, which funds programs providing civil legal services to indigent Coloradans who are victims of domestic violence.
Application forms will be available at www.courts.state.co.us/Administration/Unit.cfm?Unit=fvjf; completed forms will be accepted only by email. Grants will be awarded based on a formula which considers factors, including past participation in the program. For 2015, $1.1 million is available for grants. Applications must be received by the State Court Administrator’s Office by 5 p.m. May 30. To be eligible, organizations must be nonprofit and currently serving the legal needs of indigent victims of family violence. Applications will be accepted only by email at [email protected].
