Four Corners Safety Association will offer 30-hour driver’s education classes from June 4 to 7, June 23 to 26 and Aug. 11 to 14.

A class also will be held in Ignacio from July 14 to 17.

The cost for the class –plus the six hours of driving required by the state is $385. Classes are limited – to 20 students.

Volunteers sought for motor expo

Volunteers are needed for parking supervision and event set-up for the 2014 Durango Motor Expo to be held June 14 on Main Avenue.

Two hundred classic cars and trucks will be on display with various family-friendly activities in this fundraiser for Hospice of Mercy.

Congregation Har Shalom to host event

Congregation Har Shalom, 2537 County Road 203, will host a First Friday event on Friday.

A gathering and blessing will take place at 6 p.m. A catered dinner will take place at 6:30 p.m. A screening and discussion of “The Gatekeepers” will take place at 7:15 p.m. In the film, six leaders of Israel’s secret service, the Shin Bet, will discuss the truths and consequences of their counterterrorism mission.

The Animas Valley Grange will host a bingo party from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the grange hall, 7271 County Road 203.

Concert to benefit 5-month-old baby

A benefit concert for Liam Blake Maddox will take place from 4:30 to 7 p.m. May 9 at the Rochester Hotel Garden, 726 East Second Ave.

Music will be provided by Sugar Creek Bluegrass. Maddox is 5-month-old boy who was recently diagnosed with Idiopathic Dilated Cardiomyopathy, a condition requiring a heart transplant. Maddox’s parents met at Fort Lewis College and lived in Durango until this life-changing event. Proceeds from the benefit will help with expenses. A fund has been set up to assist the Maddox family with expenses related to the heart transplant. Make checks payable to the Liam Blake Maddox Donation Fund.
