Kiwanis Club to meet Thursday
The Kiwanis Club of Durango will welcome Bob Griffith, who was a DJ in Los Angeles for 35 years, to its meeting at noon Thursday at Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.
Griffith will talk about the status of the broadcast industry. Visitors are welcome. The cost of lunch is $13.

Horse-barrel races to be held Saturday
A 4D Jackpot Barrel Race will take place Saturday at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave.
The Open Race has a $40 entry fee; the 4D Youth and Senior is $30; and the 2D Pole Bending is $10. There is a $10 nonmember fee. The time only runs will start at 10:30 a.m., and the open race will start at 12:30 p.m.

Trails 2000 to host trail work
Trails 2000 will host trail work from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday on the Skyline Trail, at the end of the pavement on Jenkins Ranch Road.
No experience is necessary. Trails 2000 will provide tools, instruction and water, and the Chip Peddler will serve local potato and tortilla chips. Participants should sign-in at the work truck for directions and details. Volunteers should wear long pants, long-sleeved shirt, closed-toe shoes, sun hat, sunscreen and bring a water bottle.

Focus groups to discuss veterans services
Salute to Veterans will hold a series of focus group discussions the first week in June to assess existing services for veterans and to brainstorm what additional services and programs can be provided by members of the community.
These discussions are open to everyone interested in supporting veterans, active military and their families.

FLC committees to meet Thursday
The Business Affairs Committee of the Board of Trustees for Fort Lewis College will meet at 1:30 p.m. Thursday followed by the Academic Affairs Committee at 2:30 p.m.
The Presidential Evaluation Committee will convene at 4 p.m. A closed session may be convened for purposes of considering the employment of the FLC president. The meetings will be held in the President’s Conference Room, 2503 Berndt Hall, FLC.
