The High Noon Rotary Club will meet from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the DoubleTree Hotel, 601 Camino del Rio.
James Jones, a local stroke survivor, will tell his tale of perseverance. The meetings are open to the public. The cost for lunch is $15.
Sunshine Gardens to host activities
The Longest Day will take place June 21. The event calls on participants to raise funds and awareness to advance the efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association.
Durango’s Sunshine Gardens Country Home will participate with a day of activities for the family. There will be “virtual dementia tours,” and the staff will provide resources for people struggling with dementia/Alzheimer’s and people who care for them from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Tai Chi led by Dr. Pam Kircher will take place at 10 a.m.; and a family barbecue and activities complete with bouncy house will happen from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The public is invited to attend at 2518 Colorado Highway 172.

Tree carvings to be discussed June 21
The San Juan Mountains Association is conducting a study of the historic Hispano tree carvings (arborglyphs) along the Pine-Piedra Stock Driveway.
A guided walk to see historic carvings will take place on June 21. The walk is about a quarter mile along a forest road and relatively level. It is suitable for young children accompanied by an adult.

Pine River Library to host program
Pine River Library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive in Bayfield, lecturer and former professor Mark Curran will present “Brazil to Argentina” starting at 7 p.m. June 24.
The program will continue for a seven-week voyage through Belém de Pará, Corcovado, Rio de Janeiro, Montevideo and more. This seven-week series will summarize Curran’s experience last fall aboard the National Geographic Explorer as a staff member for Lindblad Expeditions. Registration is not required but appreciated.

Beginning clogging class to be offered
The Durango Country Cloggers will offer a beginning clogging class for six weeks from 1 to 2 p.m. beginning June 25 at the American Legion Hall, 878 East Second Ave.
The cost of the class will be $25 per person.
