The Durango Bridge Club will participate in the Longest Day Charity Event for the Alzheimer’s Association on Thursday and Friday at the Durango/La Plata Senior Center, 2424 Main Ave.
An open game, 199er game and social bridge will begin at 12:30 p.m. Thursday. An open game will start at 8:30 a.m. Friday followed by another open game and social bridge at 12:30 p.m. Master Points will be awarded. This event is sponsored by The American Contract Bridge League and the Alzheimer’s Association to raise funds for Alzheimer’s research.
To play sanctioned duplicate bridge for Master Points, email Jim Beatty at [email protected] or call 385-0184. Sanctioned games are planned for Thursday and Friday afternoons, and Friday morning. To play social bridge, call Sue Caplan at 375-7616 or form a table and play. Lunch will be served Friday, and snacks will be available both days. Donations are $250 for player and partner for all games, $100 for player for all games; or $10 per person per game. All donations are tax-deductible.
Lamas to present on Maitripa’s song
Khenpos Lobzang and Jigme, resident lamas at the Vajra Vidya Retreat Center in Cresone, will present a teaching on Maitripa’s song to Marpa the Translator from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Rocky Mountain Retreat, 848 East Third Ave.
Maitripa offered this song to Marpa as a parting instruction during Marpa’s first journey to India. Marpa undertook three journeys to India from Tibet to receive Buddhist teachings from Maitripa, Naropa and other Indian masters. His translations of Sanskrit texts into Tibetan and his personal guidance helped establish Buddhism and the Kagyupta lineage in Tibet.

Parenting workshops to be offered
Liza Tregillus, a parent/youth coach, will offer these parenting workshops at noon at Bowman Hall, 419 San Juan Drive, next to the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Durango:

Botanical society to host garden tour
The Durango Botanical Society’s second annual “Gardens on TOUR” will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
After the tour, all participants are invited to the Durango Public Library terrace, 1900 East Third Ave., for the Botanically Inspired Gourmet Ice Cream Social. The botanically flavored ice cream will be made by Cream Bean Berry. Sculptor, Dave Claussen has donated an original garden sculpture for the grand prize drawing during the ice-cream social.
There also will be two silent-auction items available: a commemorative giclee print by botanical artist Barbara Tobin Klema and a bouquet subscription from Lisa Bourey’s Passion Flower Bouquet Farm.

Kiwanis Club of Durango announces that the guest speaker will be Jack Llewelyn at its meeting at noon Thursday at Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.

Trails 2000 to host trail work today
Trails 2000 will host trail work on the Three Springs Trail from 5 to 7 p.m. today.
Trails 2000 will provide all tools, instructions, water and snacks. No experience is necessary. Participants should meet at the water tank. Volunteers should wear long pants, long-sleeved shirt, closed-toe shoes, sun hat, sunscreen and bri ng a water bottle.
