The Durango High Noon Rotary Club will meet from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the DoubleTree Hotel, 501 Camino del Rio.

Free bankruptcy clinic to be held Friday

Colorado Legal Services & Southwest Bar Volunteer Legal Aid will present a free clinic for filing a Chapter 7 bankruptcy from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Friday.

The clinic will walk participants through the bankruptcy-filing process and provide documents necessary to file for bankruptcy.

The Southwest Center for Independence, a local nonprofit that helps people with disabilities live in the community, will host an open house from 4 to 6:30 p.m. July 9 at 3473 Main Ave., No. 23 in the Cornerstone Building.

Astronomy program to take place in Ignacio

“Astronomy for Everyone” will be presented at 1 p.m. July 11 at the Ignacio Community Library, 470 Goddard Ave. in Ignacio.

Astronomer Kevin Manning, a former consultant with NASA, will lead the presentation. People will learn about the size and scale of the universe, the stars and other celestial wonders using hands-on activities and assorted visuals.

Volunteers sought for veterans event

The Archuleta County Veterans For Veterans, along with the Disabled American Veterans, Volunteers of America, Red Cross, Veterans Administration and county veterans service officers from Archuleta, La Plata and Montezuma counties will sponsor the Four Corners Veterans Stand Down from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 15 at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave.

This event will provide the homeless and struggling veterans in the surrounding counties with support, encouragement and resources. This event will provide showers, haircuts, food, clothing medical and mental attention, social services, legal assistance, job and housing referrals from each county and more.

The group is seeking sponsors and volunteers to provide either financial or in-kind donations as well as hosting a resource table. People are needed to assist with these resources and services: education, mental health, social services, legal, housing assistance, job referrals, medical, dental, vision, hearing, counseling, AA/NA, clothing, hot meals, taxes, spiritual guidance, barbers and beauticians.
