Rotary Club of Durango to meet Tuesday
Five club members will speak to the Rotary Club of Durango at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Strater Hotel, 699 Main Ave., about their just-completed trip to Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, which included their participation in the 2014 International Rotary Conference in Sydney.
Updates will be given on Rotary’s progress worldwide in polio eradication, literacy, world understanding, clean water, child and maternal health. From 1.2 million members worldwide, nearly 30,000 Rotarians attended the conference, where Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott announced a commitment from his government of $100 million to the PolioPlus campaign.
Rotary, along with its partners, has reduced polio cases by 99 percent worldwide since its first project to vaccinate children in the Philippines in 1979. Visitors are welcome.

Bayfield chamber to host duck race
The Bayfield Chamber of Commerce will host a duck race at 1 p.m. July 4 on the Pine River.
Tickets are $5 each or five for $20 and are available at Wells Liquor, Bayfield Chiropractic, Associate Groups Insurance and Pine River Times.
New moon astro-tour to be held Saturday
Durango Nature Studies will host a New Moon Astro-Tour at 9 p.m. Saturday at the Durango Nature Center.
The tour is free for members and $10 for nonmembers. Astronomer John Buting will lead the tour of the night sky. Buting has a depth of knowledge and telescopes. Participants will view and talk about the stars and planets in the meadow at the Nature Center.

5K walk, run to be held July 4
The city of Durango Parks and Recreation Department will host the Fourth of July Freedom 5K Walk/Run starting at 9 a.m. July 4 at Rotary Park.
All participants must check in at the event tent from 8:15 to 8:45 a.m. All ages are welcome to run, walk, stroll or stride along the Animas River Trail.
