The Durango High Noon Rotary Club will meet from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the DoubleTree Hotel, 501 Camino del Rio.

Genealogical society to meet July 12
The Southwest Colorado Genealogical Society will meet at 10:30 a.m. July 12 at the La Plata County Historical Society’s Animas Museum, 3065 West Second Ave.
After the brief business meeting, Eric Broderson will give a presentation on “Lessons & Experiences in Searching Family Hispanic Roots.” Broderson has researched his wife’s family, the Santa Cruz family from Sonora, Mexico. He has searched the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints microfilm, Catholic church and civil records and the history of the Sonora River Valley as it relates to the history of the American Southwest.
After the presentation, the society will hold a summer social for members and guests. The social will be a salad bar potluck with the society providing a fruit salad, salad greens, dressings, rolls, cold drinks, paperware and utensils. Members with last names A to L are asked to bring a salad topping. Members with last names M to Z are asked to bring their favorite dessert.

Barrel horse race series continues on July 12
The National Barrel Horse Association will continue the Race for the Buckle 4D Barrel Race Series on July 12 at the Montezuma County Fairgrounds, 30100 U.S. Highway 160, Cortez.
The entry fee for the open class is $40, $30 for 4D youth, $30 for 4D senior and $10 for nonmembers. These are sanctioned National Barrel Horse Association races, but people do not have to be a member to participate.

Republican women to meet July 15
The meeting of Southwest Republican Women will feature a luncheon presentation at noon July 15 at the DoubleTree Hotel, 501 Camino del Rio, by nationally acclaimed lecturer and author Debora Georgatos on “The Power of Women to Shape the American Political Conversation.”
After lunch, Georgatos will present a 90-minute workshop called “Politically Speaking.” Lunch is $16 for members, $20 for nonmembers, and the additional workshop fee is $10. Reservations can be made until Thursday at [email protected] or by calling Teri Oliger at 749-8546.
The Aug. 19 meeting will feature Toni Anne Dashiell speaking on “Leading for Freedom.”
DUI enforcement to rise during holiday weekend
This Fourth of July weekend, Colorado Department of Transportation, Colorado State Patrol and local law-enforcement agencies will join forces for an increased DUI education and enforcement period through The Heat Is On campaign. The increased enforcement runs through Monday.

Southern Ute museum announces closure
The Southern Ute Cultural Center & Museum, 77 County Road 517 in Ignacio, announces that it will be closed for the Fourth of July weekend.
The center will reopen with regular business hours Tuesday.
