The La Plata County Board of County Commissioners is seeking an interested individual to serve on the Historic Preservation Review Commission.
The purpose of the commission is to preserve cultural, historic and architectural history within the county. Duties of the commission are to review requests for designation of historic landmarks and historic districts; to make recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners with respect to the preservation of cultural, historic and/or architectural history within the boundaries of the county and any requests for designation of historic landmarks and historic districts. Members must be residents of La Plata County and have expertise or experience in historic preservation. This position is advisory and is not monetarily compensated.

Library offers Materials by Mail program
The Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave., announces its new Materials by Mail program.
This program is intended to provide materials for citizens of Durango and La Plata County who are unable to visit the library in person and who do not have a caregiver to do so for them. Books and audiobooks will be mailed to participants on a monthly basis. Participants must be able to send and receive packages from their home. This is provided at no cost to the enrollee.

Old Fort Farm Stand open Thursday
The Old Fort Farm Stand will be at the Fort Lewis College campus from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday just outside the Student Union.
The stand will offer snow peas, garlic bulbs, braising mix (beet and turnip greens), lettuce mix, arugula, kale, chard, radishes, beets, carrots, garlic scapes, green onions, cilantro, basil, sesame pickled radishes, garlic pickled radishes, kale chips, pickled garlic scapes, garlic scape pesto, arugula pesto, basil pesto, roasted poblano peppers, beef from grass-fed cows and local pork products. Checks, cash and Skycash will be accepted. Free parking is available on campus all summer.
Comedian to perform at Methodist church
“Wake Up Laughing & Wise Up Loving” with Steve Bhaerman, aka Swami Beyondananda, will take place at 7 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church, 2917 Aspen Drive.
Agape in Durango and E.P.I.C. Magazine will present Bhaerman, an internationally known author, humorist and workshop leader. For more than 25 years, he has written and performed as Swami Beyondananda, the “Cosmic Comic.” His comedy has been described both as “comedy disguised as wisdom” and “wisdom disguised as comedy.”

Book sale to take place at Durango library
Friends of the Durango Public Library will host a book sale from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the library, 1900 East Third Ave.
All books and all categories will be on sale for $1.50 a pound.
