A Modere Exclusive Event featuring international business expert and speaker, Margie Aliprandi, will take place at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Eolus Room of the Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.

Road work on U.S. 550 near N.M. border
Crews from the Colorado Department of Transportation will start a chip-seal project on U.S. Highway 550 at the state line beginning today.
The project will be in the northbound lanes from mile marker 0 to 3. Traffic will not be stopped, but the speed will be reduced to 40 mph through the work zone. Traffic will be reduced to one lane northbound. Southbound traffic will not be affected.

The nonprofit Karma & Jyamu Bhotia Foundation will hold a fundraising event and silent auction at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Open Shutter Gallery, 735 Main Ave.

City to host budget planning workshop
The city of Durango has begun the process of planning for the 2015 budget and will hold a public workshop at 5 p.m. July 29 in council chambers of City Hall, 949 East Second Ave.
In addition to learning more about the city’s budget and budget process, interested residents are encouraged to bring their ideas and suggestions, which will be considered by the city manager and staff during the budget process. The budget is usually adopted at a City Council meeting in the fall and goes into effect the first of the year.

Bayfield library to hold ‘Harry Potter’ party
Pine River Library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive in Bayfield, will celebrate Harry Potter’s birthday with a “Potter Party” event at 11 a.m. July 31.
The library will show the last two films in the Harry Potter series. Free snacks will be provided, or attendees are welcome to bring their own. All movies are free.
