Cashiers at Kroegers Ace Hardware are selling $1 and $5 “bear paws” as a fundraiser for Bear Smart Durango through August.
Donations support ongoing efforts to educate residents about coexisting with black bears, reducing human foods that attract bears, making bear-proofing more available in the community and offering real solutions to human-bear conflict.

Old Fort Farm Stand to be open today
The Old Fort Farm Stand will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. today outside the Fort Lewis College Student Union.
Products for sale will include: garlic bulbs, lettuce mix, arugula, kale, chard, romaine heads, carrots, beets, broccoli, red, white and yellow onions, garlic scapes, green onions, cilantro, basil, green beans, zucchini, sesame pickled radishes, garlic-pickled radishes, kale chips, garlic scape pesto, arugula pesto, basil pesto, roasted poblano peppers, pickled garlic scapes, garlic scape powder, grass-fed beef and pork products.

Mountains association to annual host picnic
San Juan Mountains Association will host its annual volunteer/members appreciation picnic from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Junction Creek Group Campground.

Living-wage coalition launches website
La Plata County Thrive! Living Wage Coalition has launched its website.
Thrive! is a coalition of residents in La Plata County who want to enhance the quality of life in La Plata County through fair and just wages for all.
The goal of the website is to provide residents with facts about the living wage issue, to recognize those La Plata County employers who pay or aspire to pay a living wage and build a greater understanding of how living wages will benefit all.

DHS class of 1949 to host reunion
The Durango High School Class of 1949 will host its 65th class reunion at 10 a.m. Saturday on the land of Bruce Fassett on the west side of the Animas River.
Coffee, tea and pastries will be served at 10 a.m., followed by lunch at noon. Finger food will be available the remainder of the day. Participants are invited to bring canoes and other water items.
Commissioners continue meetings
The La Plata County Board of County Commissioners will continue a series of “On the Road” meetings at 7 p.m. Monday at the Animas Valley Grange Hall, 7271 County Road 203.
