A Meet the Artist Reception will take place at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 25. Participants will meet the artists of the Summer 2014 Exhibit. This season’s exhibition includes paintings, mixed media, jewelry, textiles, gourds and clays.
The Storytime Kickoff Party will take place at 10 a.m. Aug. 27. The story time will focus on the end of summer. The program will include snacks, stories and blowing bubbles.

Water committee to host meeting
The Water Resources Review Committee of the Colorado Legislature will hold a public meeting at 6 p.m. Aug. 27 at Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.
This meeting will address the Southwest Basin Implementation Plan and Colorado’s Water Plan, with opportunities for discussion by the public, the legislative review committee as well as public testimony on Colorado’s Water Plan.
Bayfield library to offer Spanish series
The Pine River Library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive, will offer a three-part series focusing on Spanish and social issues in Latin America.
This class is perfect for beginners, intermediates or people wanting to discuss current events. Participants are welcome to attend part of each class or the entire class.
The classes will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesdays from Sept. 3 to Sept. 17. Advance registration is required. “The Spanish Experience” will be taught by former Fort Lewis College professor Jim Fitzgerald, who taught sociology and Spanish for more than 30 years. Fitzgerald also served in the U.S. Peace Corps, serving in Chile, Puerto Rico and Ecuador.

Natural foods co-op to offer classes
Durango Natural Foods Coop, 575 East Eighth Ave., announces these classes:
Basic Bike Maintenance 101 with Adam Mazzarella will take place at 6 p.m. Aug. 26. Participants will learn basic bike maintenance for cruisers, road bikes and mountain bike. Learn to change a tire, adjust their positioning and correct shirting issues. Mazzarella also will discuss bicycle maintenance to prevent common problems.
Mushroom Foray with Chris Ricci of Majesty Mushrooms will take place at 1 p.m. Sept. 7. Ricci will lead a one-hour foray for local wild mushrooms and will help identify found specimens during the walk. There is a $10 suggested donation per adult. Children are welcome. Participants should bring rain gear, boots and a basket. Participants should meet at the co-op at 1 p.m. and a caravan will leave at 1:20 p.m.

Durango Natural Foods members to meet
Members of Durango Natural Foods will meet at 5:30 p.m. today at the Rocky Mountain Retreat, 848 East Third Ave.
Founding members recently learned the current board has been planning to give the store to La Montanita Co-op in Albuquerque, which owns six stores.
This merger will be discussed.
