Local First will sponsor the fourth annual Eat Local Celebration from Sept. 11 to Oct. 6.
Events will include a “Meet the Farmers” evening, a tour of greenhouses and Apple Days. Many local eateries will highlight local food on their menus.

Bayfield library to host parent/child book club
The Pine River Library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive, will host a parent/child book club, with the first book discussion set for noon Sept. 20.
The “Paperback Picnic” program is geared for kids in grades 3-8 and their caregivers. Participants will read the book together in preparation for each discussion. The first book for this program will be Wonder by R.J. Palacio. The story revolves around a young boy with facial deformities. Copies of the book are available at the library.
Participants will meet to talk about the book while having a picnic and should bring their own lunches. Drinks will be provided.

Sponsors sought for Oktoberfest
The Durango Business Improvement District has taken on oversight and organization of the 11th annual Oktoberfest Durango, scheduled for Sept. 27 to 28 in the Durango Transit Center parking lot, 250 W. 8th St.
Oktoberfest Durango is set for noon to 5:30 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4:30 p.m. Sunday and will feature two performance stages with nonstop music including both German-style polka bands and contemporary dance bands. German-style food booths and games. Sponsors are sought. People attending will have an option to park at the La Plata County Fairgrounds and ride the Main Avenue Trolley. Proceeds from Oktoberfest will benefit the activities of the BID.

Wolfwood Refuge to host art auction
Wolfwood Refuge will host its third annual Art Auction from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Powerhouse Science Center, 1333 Camino del Rio.
This is a live and silent auction, featuring artwork by artists in the region and a chance to meet ambassador wolves while supporting the humane efforts at Wolfwood. Wolfwood is a licensed sanctuary for wolves and their wolf-dog cousins in La Plata County.
