Pine River Library will participate in the “Outside the Lines” movement, where libraries across the United States are working to eliminate old stereotypes.
Between Monday and Sept. 20, the library will celebrate with its “Epic Music Video” project. During that week, patrons and community members are invited to be a part of the video. Footage will be gathered at library events, in the library’s garden or during “dance-offs.” After capturing hours of video footage, the final product will be uploaded to the library’s YouTube playlist at http://tinyurl.com/k6y2uye.

Prescribed burn in Turkey Springs
The Pagosa Ranger District is planning to burn about 750 acres in the Turkey Springs area near U.S. Forest Service Roads No. 629 and No. 919 sometime between Monday and Dec. 1.
The actual dates of burning operations will depend on weather and fuel conditions. Eight units are within the Brockover and Devil Creek two burn-planning areas. The units range in size from 43 to 145 acres. Ignition operations may take place over several consecutive days. Burning operations will be conducted by district personnel and other fire resources from the San Juan National Forest. The purpose is to reduce hazardous ground fuels, reduce the risk of unplanned catastrophic wildfire and restore ponderosa pine ecosystems.
Some area trails may be closed on burn days and immediately after burning. For more information, call Fred Ellis at 264-1541.
Driveway standards to be discussed
The La Plata County Public Works Department will hold a public meeting to discuss proposed driveway standards from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the meeting room of the La Plata County Court House, 1060 East Second Ave.
The proposed driveway standards have been posted at http://co.laplata.co.us. Public participation is requested to assist in the development of driveway standards within the unincorporated county. The county, fire districts and public have been engaged in discussion of driveway standards for the last decade to address code deficiencies, most of which became apparent during the 2002 Missionary Ridge Fire. The county commissioners recently provided direction to county staff members to present to the Planning Commission draft driveway regulations to be incorporated in the Land Use Code. The current goal is to present a draft of the revised driveway regulations to the Planning Commission for consideration in October.
