As part of Durango AIDS Awareness Week, Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave., will host sections of the AIDS Quilt through Saturday.
The quilt sections will be displayed during library hours in Program Rooms 1 and 2.

Marvel Grange to host local foods potluck
A Local Foods Potluck will take place at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Marvel Grange Hall, 217 County Road 133A.
Following the potluck, attendees will discuss program plans and activities at the grange for the coming year.
Child Passenger Safety Week recognized
Child Passenger Safety Team Colorado will participate in National Child Passenger Safety Week, through Saturday and National Seat Check Saturday to help raise awareness.
Parents, child-care providers and anyone who works with children are encouraged to take part in National Child Passenger Safety Week.
Parents can participate by getting their car and booster seats checked by a nationally certified CPS Technicians. Schools, child-care providers and community groups can contact a CPS technician to get more information and to educate parents.

Big Brothers, Sisters to host gala
Big Brothers Big Sisters will host a 30th Anniversary Gala at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Smiley Building, 1309 East Third Ave.
Food will be provided by Hot Tomatoes, and there will be a silent auction and entertainment by Ralph Dinosaur. Tickets will be available until Friday.

Botanical society to host fundraisers
Matt and Janet Kenna have donated a puma to the Durango Botanical Society’s Library Demonstration Garden where it will be placed in the new wildlife section of the garden.
Miki Harder, who designed another sculpture in the garden, the Thomas Grams Memorial with soaring ravens, also designed the puma. The Puma needs a concrete pedestal required by the city for all sculptures. The society and Pine River Valley Bank will sell baked goods, fresh flower arrangements from Passion Flowers and exotic bulbs at the bank from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays to fund the installation of a concert pad. Donations can be made at the bank or mail to DBS, 1400 Main Ave. Durango, CO, 81301.

Eat Local to host kick-off event today
Local First and 6512’ Restaurant and Lounge will present “Meet the Farmers” a Eat Local celebration kick-off event from 5 to 7 p.m. today at 6512’, 152 E. College Drive.
Local First, 6512’ and partners invite La Plata County residents and business owners to meet the farmers and learn more about the community’s local food system.
From 5:30 to 6 p.m. Southwest Farm Fresh Cooperative will introduce the growers and discuss how the local food system works from farm to table. The month-long celebration will feature local dishes and drinks, events, and workshops available throughout the fall harvest season.
Participating restaurants will provide free local food appetizers and cash bar
