CDOT announces road work projects
Colorado Department of Transportation will perform these road work projects:
One-lane alternating traffic for paving operations and guardrail installation will be necessary from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday through October on U.S. Highway 160 both eastbound and westbound west of Hesperus. Delays are possible.
Single-lane closures will be possible for paving, striping, shoulder work and fencing from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday through November on U.S. Highway 160 both eastbound and westbound west of Pagosa Springs. A pilot car will be used. Delays of 15 minutes are possible. For more information, call 731-2918.
One-lane alternating traffic may be required for paving operations, shoulder work and guardrail installation from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday through October on Colorado Highway 145 both northbound and southbound between Cortez and Dolores. Delays of 10 to 15 minutes should be expected.
One-lane alternating traffic will be necessary for culvert replacement from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday through October on Colorado Highway 184 both eastbound and westbound west of Mancos. Delays are possible.

Procurement office to close for lunch hour
La Plata County’s Procurement Office will be closed daily during the lunch hour from noon to 1 p.m. beginning Wednesday.
With the exception of the lunch-hour closure, it will be open to the public for the transaction of business between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.

Trails 2000 to host trail work Wednesday
Trails 2000 will host trail work from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday on Sale Barn Trail.
The group will work to fix some issues from the recent rain. No experience is necessary. Trails 2000 will provide the tools, gloves, safety/instructional tool talk, water and snacks. The Trails 2000 truck will be in the Sale Barn parking lot directly behind Dietz Market. Participants should sign in at the truck. Volunteers should wear long pants, long-sleeved shirt, closed-toe shoes, a sun hat, sunscreen, and bring a water bottle and rain jacket.

5K, 10K to benefit cancer programs
Mercy Health Foundation will host the 20th annual 5K Journey of Hope fun run/walk and the 10K Colors for Cancer trail run on Saturday.
The event will start at the parking lot adjacent to Mercy Regional Breast Care Center, 1010 Three Springs Blvd., and the finish will be on Mercado Street in the Three Springs neighborhood, where there will be live music by Dave Mensch, food, kids’ activities and prizes for participants.
The 10K Colors for Cancer trail run will start at 8:30 a.m., and the 5K Journey of Hope fun run/walk will start at 9 a.m. Proceeds from the 5K Journey of Hope benefit Mercy Health Foundation’s Journey of Hope Fund, which provides free screening mammograms to residents of Southwest Colorado who need financial assistance. Proceeds from the 10K Colors for Cancer trail run benefits patients of Mercy’s Cancer Center, which serves patients with all types of cancers. The entry fee for either event is $25.

Weekly bird walks on Wednesdays
The weekly bird walk organized by For the Birds will be held at 8 a.m. each Wednesday.
The walk is hosted by a variety of local nature organizations. Participants should meet at Rotary Park. The walks last about 1½ hours. Bring binoculars. The walks are free, but donations to the hosting group are welcome. The bird walks are held at 8 a.m. during daylight saving time and 9 a.m. otherwise.
