Durango Botanical Society will hold its fourth annual benefit bulb sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.

Mike Smedley, banker, bulb expert and local humorist, will speak from 9:30 to 10:30, relating his personal experiences about growing plants from bulbs in Durango while fending off the local critters. Many of the bulbs are rare and limited in quantity.

Ballot issues to be discussed in Marvel

The League of Women Voters will present information on the ballot issues at 7 p.m. today at the Marvel Grange Hall, 217 County Road 133a.

Candidates have been invited and will be given an opportunity to tell participants what their goals are if they are elected. Individuals can ask questions on an individual basis, but there will not be an official debate.

Lanes on Camino to be closed Monday

The city of Durango will temporarily close the inside lane of northbound traffic on Camino del Rio, north of Seventh Street, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday.

The lane closure is necessary to facilitate landscaping in the new median completed over the summer. Motorists may experience delays in the area.

Road repairs to be made to CR 237

La Plata County Road & Bridge Department will begin repairs to County Road 237, the Horse Gulch access road, on Monday.

This is a joint city and county project that will attempt to restore the road to conditions prior to the recent rain events in September. Work hours will be from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the project will be completed by 5 p.m. Thursday. During the construction project period, the first 1,200 feet of the access road (County Road 237), from the new Horse Gulch trailhead to Meadow Loop, will be closed. The public is asked to use another entry point for access to the area. City of Durango will have a Park Ranger on site to help with safety issues involving the public.

Free anti-bully seminar to be held

A free anti-bully seminar and open house will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Durango Kenpo Karate, 158 Bodo Drive, Suite C.

October is Bully Awareness Month. Based on “We Are One”curriculum, anti-bully strategies will be discussed. The studio will also host an open house with sample lessons of the curriculum.
