Part of North Point parking lot closed
The city of Durango Engineering Department will close four parking spaces and a portion of the travel lane to the rear North Point Mall parking lot from Tuesday to Nov. 7.
The project also will block the area between the parking lot, the railroad tracks and the grass area adjacent to Camino del Rio.
The closure is necessary for construction crews to complete the first phase of the 13th Street Storm Drain project. The project will replace the existing storm drain that runs west of the North Point Mall parking area to the Animas River.
The first phase of the project is installation of storm-drain pipe beneath the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad tracks while the railroad is shut down for its yearly maintenance period through Nov. 14. The new pipeline will be installed south of the existing storm-drain pipe thereby keeping the existing pipe in service during construction.
Additionally, warning signs will be placed near the project area to alert motorists of construction activity.
