Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave., announces it has received an $11,886 grant from the Colorado State Library through the State Grants to Library Act.

This money was designated by the Colorado Legislature to purchase library materials to promote early literacy.

Donations sought for animal shelters

Christmas in Vallecito is sponsoring an Animal Rescue/Shelter Giving Tree for local shelters.

To view donation suggestions, visit the Hideaway Grill, 18044 County Road 501 at Vallecito Lake. People also can make a money donation by check payable directly to the shelter of their choice. Donations will be accepted through Dec. 21.

Senior center to host arts, crafts bazaar

The Durango/La Plata Senior Center will host its annual Arts and Crafts Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 2424 Main Ave.

Various hand-crafted items and baked goods will be sold. Door prizes will be drawn throughout the day. Vendor space is available.

United Way seeks donations, volunteers

United Way of Southwest Colorado is preparing holiday gifts for the men, women and children at Volunteers of America Shelter and need assistance with this:

Volunteers are needed to fill each handbag or kit.

Donations of gently used women’s handbags, men’s toiletry kits or children’s lunch boxes.

Donations of useful and fun items to go into each container.

John Wimberley film to be shown

A premiere showing of the documentary “John Wimberley – The Metaphysic of Light” from the American Masters Series will take place at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Open Shutter Gallery, 735 Main Ave.

Wimberley, nearing his 50th year of work, is the only photographer chosen by Ansel Adams to have two shows with him. Some original framed prints will be shown. A discussion will follow the film. Admission is free. Seating is limited.
