Water maintenance to be performed
The city’s Utilities Department currently is flushing the drinking water system as part of an ongoing maintenance program.
This process removes any sediments or stagnant water from the system by moving large volumes of water through the water-main pipes. During the process, city of Durango water customers may see cloudy water from their faucets; however, the water still is safe to drink. The maintenance is done by neighborhoods, and flushing the entire system will take several days.
Customers who experience cloudy water are advised to turn off their faucets, wait one hour, then run water through their faucet for 15 to 20 minutes to clear any residual cloudiness. If the water remains cloudy, customers should call 375-4801.
