The Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave., will host a Tech-Petting Zoo from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday in the library’s Program Room No. 3.

Participants will be able to see, touch and try out a variety of gadgets and devices. Gadgets on hand will include eReaders, iPads, Surface tablets and more.

Winter Wonder Bands performance held

The Stillwater Foundation will present the fourth annual Winter Wonder Bands, a musical event showcasing Stillwater Foundation’s youth bands and ensembles, from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Durango Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall, 1550 Main Ave.

This concert will feature music from a variety of genres, including jazz, pop, rock, Latin fusion, Caribbean, blues and more. Tickets are $5 at the door, and attendees are welcome to come and go as they please. The event also will feature Baby Burros from Zia Taqueria, a variety of homemade desserts and goodies as well as a silent auction. Proceeds will go directly toward providing after-school music and athletic programs for youth in La Plata County.

Medicinal-tea gathering to be discussed

Turtle Lake Refuge will present “Medicinal Tea Gathering” in support of organic parks at 2 p.m. Sunday at the organic Fanto Park, located by Park Elementary School.

Participants will learn about medicinal teas while drinking hot tea from local herbs.

Blue Christmas Service to be held

Mercy Regional Medical Center will host a Blue Christmas Service: A ministry to those who grieve during the holidays at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 16 in the Mercy Chapel.

The service is designed for people who are grieving. Hospital staff members, patients and residents are invited. The 30-minute service, led by Mercy chaplains, will feature readings, a time of remembrance, live music and a guest speaker offering a healing message. The service is for anyone who finds the Christmas season difficult because of the death or estrangement of a loved one, unemployment, loneliness, illness, loss of a pet or other hardships.

Palo Verde improvement district to meet

The La Plata County Palo Verde Public Improvement District No. 3 Board will hold a special business meeting at 8 a.m. Tuesday in the meeting room of the La Plata County Courthouse, 1060 East Second Ave.

The board will consider the following: Consideration of Resolution No. PID3-2014-02 Palo Verde Public Improvement District 2015 Budget; consideration of Resolution No. PID3-2014-03 Appropriation of Sums of Money for the PID3 2015 Budget; and consideration of Resolution No. PID3-2014-04 Certifying Mill Levy for 2014 Property Tax Paid in 2015.
