The La Plata County Humane Society will host the 14 Dog Days of Christmas through Dec. 24.

Usually a dog that has been at the humane society for a long time or a senior dog will be sponsored by a local business. On their sponsor day the dog will go downtown from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The dog usually will visit their business sponsor, as well.

Warren Miller’s latest to screen at Smiley

Durango Winter Sports Foundation will present Warren Miller’s “No Turning Back” on Wednesday at the Smiley Building, 1309 East Third Ave.

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. with a social hour. Zia Taqueria burritos, Ska beer, wine and Coca-Cola products will be for sale. The film will start at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 each or four for $40 at Ski Barn and 2nd Avenue Sports. Ticket four-packs can be purchased at www.purgatoryskiteam.org/events. Proceeds from the event will support the coaching and training of 200 developing and elite athletes for alpine, freestyle and Nordic skiing.

“No Turning Back” takes the legacy of skiing around the world with top-name skiers on familiar and radical terrain.

“EFT: Learn Emotional Freedom Technique body tapping to release stress” will take place from noon to 1 p.m. Friday in the Sun Room (No. 110).

Donations will be accepted at the door for the Mercy Health Foundation to benefit the hospice residence. Tea and water will be provided.

BEEP if you fundraise for Bayfield education

Adopt a bell for $5, and enter Bayfield Early Education Programs (BEEP) drawing for six Visa-backed gift cards.

Values range from $100 to $500. The drawing will take place at the preschool’s holiday program at 6 p.m. Thursday at the new Performing Arts Center at Bayfield High School. People do not need to be present to win. BEEP fundraisers enable the preschool to offer scholarships to needy families and help keep tuition costs down and affordable.

BEEP if you want to be a better parent

BEEP is accepting registrations for its third Incredible Years Parenting Class, which will begin Jan. 15.

The free class will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. every Thursday for 14 weeks. Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. Childcare will be provided. Participants will learn how to help a child be successful in school and learn research-based strategies for improving a child’s behavior.
