The Friends of Ridgway State Park Inc. is offering two $1,000 scholarships to college students who have completed at least one semester of post-secondary education.
Applicants must have graduated from high schools in Mesa, Delta, Montrose, San Miguel or Ouray counties and be enrolled in studies leading to a degree in environmental or biological sciences or equivalent. Applications may be obtained from the Ridgway State Park Office, by calling (970) 626-5822 or emailing [email protected]. The application deadline is April 30.
Marvel Grange to host chili cook-off
The Marvel Grange will host a Chili Cook-off at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the grange hall, 217 County Road 133A.
People entering chili must provide 1 gallon of prepared chili, ready to serve and pay the entry fee of $10 per entry. After the cook-off there will be a talent show and dessert auction. The auction will benefit local families in need. Marvel Grange also will honor an outstanding Community Citizen. Everyone is invited.

Pine River Library announces programs
Pine River Library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive in Bayfield, will host these youth programs:
“Jammin’ Juniors” will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. The program will feature songs, stories and activities for babies and toddlers. This program will start on Wednesday.
Storytime will take place at 10 a.m. Thursdays. The program for toddlers and preschoolers will feature crafts, stories and activities. The first event will be a “Fire Truck Storytime” with local fire officials reading stories which will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday.
Science Storytimes will take place the first Thursday of the month. At these events, children receive a free science experiment kit. Kits will be available for everyone, while supplies last.
“MineBlox” will take place at 3:30 p.m. Mondays on the library laptops in the Community Room. School-aged children up to fifth-graders will be able to play Minecraft, Roblox or other engineering games. Also, local experts for each game will be on hand to answer questions. The program will begin Jan. 26.
For sixth- through 12th-graders, the library offers daily activities for teens, starting at 3:30 p.m. The events feature games, activities and snacks. On Mondays and Fridays, teens can hang out in the “Teen Lounge” where the activities range from gaming to crafting. Tuesdays teens can offer their take on library services as part of the Teen Advisory Committee. Wednesdays are Wednesday Writers Workshop days for teens with an interest in writing. And Thursday’s activity focuses on tabletop gaming.
Older teens are invited to participate in monthly Dungeon & Dragons meets held on the third Saturday of each month.

Daybreak Rotary Club to meet Wednesday
Steve Ilg, creator and founder of Wholistic Fitness, multi-world championship athlete, coach and author, will give a presentation on “Addiction to Comfort and How It Creates Dis-Ease(s) Within Us” at 7 a.m. Wednesday to the Daybreak Rotary Club at the Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.

Native artists eligible for grants
CapacityBuilders Inc., a nonprofit grant company, has a grant available for Native American artists who are in financial need.
The grant project is called N.A.T.I.V.E Project, Navajo Artists Technology Innovation & Vision Enterprise Project. With this grant the company is able to pay for any fees an artist may have going to an art show, arts craft fairs, etc. All artists are welcome to apply.
